My first priority is temperament and health before type. Maine Coons must have gentle, playful, easygoing dispositions. I want to produce genetically diverse cats because they would more likely have long life and good health. With this in mind I will be bringing in cats from “newer” foundation lines and cats that are more outcrossed than most of the cats in our area.
I also want to raise successive generations of raw fed cats. From all the reading and research that I have done on feeding a more natural diet, I have read over and over again that raw fed cats had less fertility problems, less problems delivering live, and healthy kittens. Queens did not lose coat or have problems with milk supply. Kittens developed stronger immune systems because they had a better chance inutero and their mothers were more capable of taking care of their kittens.
Genetic diversity, health and temperament are the priority but the fun comes with also raising cats that excel in type and are not the usual brown tabby coat colours. Imagine Maine Coon cats with robust health that are beautiful to behold.
