Definitions:
Pet – These kittens may have slight faults in conformation that preclude them from the show ring. They have the wonderful personality and temperament of a Maine Coon that make them the perfect companion.
Show Alter – For the person that enjoys the camaraderie of the show hall and the competitiveness of the show ring, these kittens meet all the requirements of the Maine Coon breed standard and also have the personality suited to the show ring. If you are interested in this possibility, please contact us to discuss this further.
Breeder Quality – Breeding takes a huge commitment, both in time and resources, and requires a tremendous amount of dedication to your cats. It is not for everyone. Breeding cats will only be placed in homes where we have determined that they have a suitable environment for breeding cats. You will be required to complete an extensive breeder questionnaire prior to us considering releasing a kitten as a breeder and will also need to agree to and sign a special written agreement just for breeders. If you are interested in a breeding cat, please contact us to discuss this further.
The Placement Process:
If you are considering adopting a PurRydeRoc kitten, please first review the expectations detailed in our purchase agreement.
If you agree to all the terms of our purchase agreement, we will then need to know more about you as potential adopters and the home environment where one of our kittens or cats would be living. ALL potential owners must complete an adoption questionnaire. If you don’t have other cats, please consider adopting two kittens or a retired adult and a kitten or two retired adults. Our cats are very sociable and would appreciate another cat companion.
Once we receive your adoption questionnaire, we will review it and then call you to discuss getting a kitten from us in more detail. If a kitten is not available immediately you can be placed on a waiting list if you wish.
We do not take reservations for kittens until they are approximately ten to fourteen weeks of age. If the kitten is under observation for show quality potential, it will be even longer before actual placement will considered. We will contact you once we think we have a good match between a kitten/cat and your family based on what you have told us about yourselves and your home.
At that time a contract will be prepared and we ask for a $400 deposit if the kitten is being shipped to you, $200 if you are picking up the kitten. The deposit reserves the kitten for you. The deposit asked for will be used to cover the costs of shipping and a carrier, if the kitten is being shipped, vet fees and a small portion of the cost of the cat. We will also go over the purchase agreement and discuss delivery to you or pick up of your new companion.
Kittens go to their new homes at 14 to 16 weeks of age, no exceptions. They are well socialized (all kittens are raised underfoot and are fed a natural raw diet), litter box and scratching post trained, and have strong healthy immune systems. We breed for health and temperament above all else, then type or conformation. Please read “How Young Is Too Young?” to understand why ethical breeders wait until kittens are a minimum of 12 weeks old before going to there new homes.
Delivery will be arranged once we have received signed agreements and deposit back from you. If you change your mind, we will cancel your agreement and refund your money as set out in our purchase agreement. If we change our minds because we believe it is not as good a match as we initially thought, we will cancel the agreement and refund your money immediately.
We will follow up with you and your new kitten but promise not to be pests. We do expect to be consulted from time to time regarding the health and happiness of your cat. Phone calls and photos are always welcome.
